2 O LORD, rebuke me not in Thine anger, Neither chasten me in Thy wrath.
3 Be gracious unto me, O LORD, for I languish away; Heal me, O LORD, for my bones are affrighted.
4 My soul also is sore affrighted; And Thou, O LORD, how long?
5 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul; Save me for Thy mercy's sake.
6 For in death there is no remembrance of Thee; In the nether-world who will give Thee thanks?
7 I am weary with my groaning; Every night make I my bed to swim; I melt away my couch with my tears.

2 I will extol thee, O LORD, for Thou hast raised me up, And hast not suffered mine enemies to rejoice over me.
3 O LORD my God, I cried unto Thee, and Thou didst heal me;
4 O LORD, Thou broughtest up my soul from the nether-world; Thou didst kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
5 Sing praise unto the LORD, O ye His godly ones, And give thanks to His holy name.
6 For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for a life-time; Weeping may tarry for the night, But joy cometh in the morning.
7 Now I had said in my security: ' I shall never be moved.'
8 Thou hadst established, O LORD, in Thy favour my mountain as a stronghold— Thou didst hide Thy face; I was affrighted.
9 Unto Thee, O LORD, did I call, And unto the LORD I made supplication:
10 'What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise Thee? shall it declare Thy truth?
11 Hear, O LORD, and be gracious unto me; LORD, be Thou my helper.'

2 Happy is he that considereth the poor; The LORD will deliver him in the day of evil.
3 The LORD preserve him, and keep him alive, let him be called happy in the land; And deliver not Thou him unto the greed of his enemies.
4 The LORD support him upon the bed of illness; Mayest Thou turn all his lying down in his sickness.
5 As for me, I said: 'O LORD, be gracious unto me; Heal my soul; for I have sinned against Thee.'
6 Mine enemies speak evil of me: 'When shall he die, and his name perish?'
7 And if one come to see me, he speaketh falsehood; His heart gathereth iniquity to itself; When he goeth abroad, he speaketh of it.
8 All that hate me whisper together against me, Against me do they devise my hurt:
9 'An evil thing cleaveth fast unto him; And now that he lieth, he shall rise up no more.'

2 O LORD, God of my salvation, What time I cry in the night before Thee,
3 Let my prayer come before Thee, Incline Thine ear unto my cry.
4 For my soul is sated with troubles, And my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
5 I am counted with them that go down into the pit; I am become as a man that hath no help;
6 Set apart among the dead, Like the slain that lie in the grave, Whom Thou rememberest no more; And they are cut off from Thy hand. .
7 Thou hast laid me in the nether-most pit, In dark places, in the deeps.
8 Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, And all Thy waves Thou pressest down. Selah
9 Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me; Thou hast made me an abomination unto them; I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

1 A Prayer of the afflicted, when he fainteth, and poureth out his complaint before the LORD. .
2 O LORD, hear my prayer, And let my cry come unto Thee.
3 Hide not Thy face from me in the day of my distress; Incline Thine ear unto me; In the day when I call answer me speedily.
4 For my days are consumed like smoke, And my bones are burned as a hearth.
5 My heart is smitten like grass, and withered; For I forget to eat my bread.

איך נבחרו הפרקים?

הרשימה הזו מבוססת על המקורות המסורתיים: לקוטי מהרי״ח (אורח חיים סי׳ ח), נספחי סידור ספרדי קלאסי, ופירושי תהילים שונים. רוב הפרקים הם תפילות אישיות של דוד המלך בעת מצוקה (פרק ו: "אל באפך תוכיחני"), פרקי תקווה (פרק כג: "ה׳ רועי לא אחסר"), ופרקי הודאה אחרי הצלה.

צריך לומר את כולם או חלק?

אין חובה. רבים אומרים את כל הרשימה (סבב מלא = כשעה אמירה). אחרים בוחרים את 7 הפרקים המודגשים (ו, ל, מא, פח, קב, קכא, קל). יש שאומרים רק את התיקון הכללי של רבי נחמן (10 פרקים, כ-15 דקות).

באיזה סדר לומר?

הסדר הקלאסי הוא לפי המספר העולה. אבל הקובע העיקרי הוא הכוונה (לב הקרוב לאלוקיו), לא הסדר המדויק. אפשר להתחיל מפרק שמדבר אליכם ולהמשיך משם.

מותר לאדם אחר לומר עבורי?

כן, וזה מנהג נפוץ מאוד. בני משפחה, חברים, או חברי קהילה אומרים תהילים עבור החולה. נהוג להזכיר את שם הפרטי של החולה ושם אמו: "לרפואת [שם הפרטי] בן/בת [שם האם]".

מה לגבי דוברי אנגלית או חלשים בעברית?

בדיעבד אפשר לומר באנגלית או בכל שפה שמבינים, ואותות מציעה תרגום אנגלי לכל פרק. עיקר הדבר הוא הכוונה והתפילה. אבל אם אפשר לומר בעברית (גם בלי הבנה מילה במילה), זה עדיף לרוב הפוסקים.
