Feature
Quiet Prayer-Time Notifications
Reminders for Shacharit, Mincha, Maariv, candle lighting, and Sefirat HaOmer. Generated locally on the device. Work in airplane mode. Shabbat-aware.
How it works
Most prayer apps deliver notifications via push from a remote server, which requires a constant internet connection and exposes your location to Google's or Apple's notification servers. Otot does it differently: notifications are scheduled locally, up to 14 days in advance, with no internet connection. Each one is generated on the device using your location.
That means three things: 1) notifications work in airplane mode, 2) no server knows when or where you pray, 3) no constant internet permission is needed.
What you can enable
- Prayer times: Modeh Ani in the morning, a Shacharit reminder before sof zman shema (MGA or GRA), Mincha before sunset, Maariv after tzeit hakochavim.
- Shabbat: candle lighting reminder, havdalah reminder (Geonim or Rabbeinu Tam, your choice).
- Sefirat HaOmer: nightly reminder during the season (16 Nisan to 5 Sivan), with the bracha and today's count.
- Holidays and fasts: Yom Tov entry, motzei chag, fast start and end times for all five fast days.
- Daily Tehilim: a reminder for today's chapters in the 30-day cycle.
Frequently asked questions
Will I get notifications on Shabbat?
Not by default. Otot respects your device's Shabbat settings (Shabbat Focus on iOS, Bedtime Mode on Android). If you want a candle-lighting reminder, it fires before Shabbat starts and goes silent after.
Why didn't my notification fire?
Check: 1) notification permissions are enabled (Settings → Otot → Notifications), 2) battery saver isn't suppressing them, 3) Focus / Do Not Disturb isn't blocking, 4) location permission is on (so the local time can be computed). Notifications are scheduled locally, no internet connection needed.
Is there a Sefirat HaOmer reminder?
Yes. Each night during the Sefirah season (16 Nisan through 5 Sivan), a reminder fires after tzeit hakochavim, opening today's count with the bracha. Toggle off if you don't want it.
What about fast days?
Otot sends a reminder at the start of each fast (sunrise or tzeit, depending on the fast) and at the end (tzeit hakochavim), with precise local times. Covered fasts: 17 Tammuz, Tisha B'Av, Tzom Gedaliah, 10 Tevet, Ta'anit Esther.
