How to count the Omer
At night (after sunset), recite the bracha: "Baruch Atah Hashem... al Sefirat HaOmer", then today's count: e.g., "Today is three days of the Omer". From day seven onward, also include weeks: "Today is seven days, which is one week of the Omer".
Many add "HaRachaman Hu Yachzir Lanu Avodat Beit HaMikdash..." and Tehilim 67 ("Lamenatzeach Bineginot") afterward. See your siddur or the Otot app for the full text in your nusach.

Frequently asked questions
When does the Omer count begin?
The count begins on the second night of Pesach (16 Nisan), in the evening, after Maariv. It ends on day 49 (5 Sivan), the evening before Shavuot. Total: 49 days, 7 weeks.
What if I forgot to count one day?
If you missed a full night and the following day, you continue counting on subsequent days but without a bracha. If you remembered the next day before sunset, count by day without a bracha and resume with a bracha that night. Set up an Otot reminder before Maariv to avoid forgetting.
Can I count before sunset?
Not l'chatchila. The proper time is after tzeit hakochavim. Bedi'eved, someone who counted after Plag HaMincha (about 75 minutes before sunset) has fulfilled the mitzvah.
What about Lag BaOmer?
On Lag BaOmer (day 33, 18 Iyar) most minhagim relax some Sefirah mourning customs: haircuts, weddings, and music become permitted. Sephardic minhag begins relaxation only on day 34. Otot marks the date automatically.
